Winter Time low productivity

The photo shows a filter used to collect phytoplankton material, for pigment analysis, having ran c.30L of surface ocean water through it. Compared to summer time (Dec-Jan 2017) in the same area where only 10L could be filtered to collect a sufficient amount of material for analysis, these winter waters have a much lower productivity or biomass concentration. With this we can already see first hand without any analysis how the Biogeochemistry between seasons can change.
